Waiting to turn "Paddy's Pages"

It's amazing how kids figure out tech gadgets ...i mean while i agonize trying to get my head around some app that's supposed to make my life easier, a child would have it figured in a couple of minutes. no wonder that the present generation of kids are referred to as the "wired" generation ..... they are happiest when they are wired to some gizmo....else they feel lost.
turning over a new leaf!
whilst technology blazes on, in playschools the debate is whether we should introduce preschoolers to the wonders of the computer. call me old-fashioned but i believe we should encourage them to open books and lose themselves to the fantastic world of reading. There's no denying computers are here to stay, but since reading is fast becoming a declining skill, i'll cast my vote for a good storybook any day. i'm hoping that the animated series "Paddy's Pages" being brought out by Toonz will draw many children to turn a page!

  1. ahhh... the joys of reading and discovering worlds through words...the sheer variety in children's books makes me wish i was a child again. there is so much happening in terms of indian writing in english as well now. tulika and mango books by DC are among my favourites. ofcourse its entirely another matter when it comes to my daughter! given free rein, she would choose a wired gadget, but enjoys story reading when its done together...

i've just started going with her to eloor library and i understand there is library time at school as well, where kids are encouraged to read aloud from books. i hope her appetite for reading will gradually increase, and if it becomes an addiction, thats one i am not likely to have much problem with :)

  2. Give me a book anyday...I am glad my kids and husband love books too. We are planning on having a family reading time together (after my son is old enough to keep himself engrossed in a book) where we sit together and catch up on our reading...each with his own book, of course!

I remember buying picture books for my daughter before she was even born!
